I am an Expressive Arts Facilitator, Teaching Artist and someone who loves art and creativity.
I believe that the mind, body, and spirit are connected, both individually and collectively.
When I was a teenager, I would draw, write poetry, sew my clothes, and style them my way, tie-dye, design jewelry and in general, have a blast “making.” Using my mind, hands, and intuition to create was a joy. But my life took a turn for the worse. For an exceptionally long time, I struggled to keep my fingers grasping the “edge of the cliff.” I was in survival mode. Looking back from the other side, I realized that during the times that I was an art teacher, I was happy. For years, those experiences were my respite and sanctuary; a thread to hold onto that tethered me to my true self even as I was incrementally losing parts of myself.
In response to my lived experience, both negative and positive, I have come to believe that becoming one’s authentic self is a life priority. I have learned firsthand the power of expressive arts as a healing salve. Now I share the pleasure of engaging in this process with others. My workshops use the underlying themes of mindfulness, gratitude, self-awareness, and self-acceptance. The programs facilitate the exploration of self through drawing, painting, collage, clay, stitching, mending, wearable art, movement, personal style and drama. My aim is to help others to create intuitive “art” with the intention to heal the wounded self and experience transformation.
